What we can work through

What we work through

Prince William County families often juggle long I-95 and I-66 commutes, shift work, and military schedules. A good agreement has to fit those realities.

Parenting schedules

Plans that account for shift work, VRE commutes, deployments, and the Prince William County Public Schools calendar.

Child support conversations

A side-by-side look at incomes and costs like childcare and health insurance, informed by the Virginia child support guidelines.

Spousal support

Whether support is part of the picture and what each household can realistically manage.

Home & property

The house, vehicles, household items, and the debts attached to them.

Military & federal benefits

Many families here have ties to Marine Corps Base Quantico or federal agencies. We identify those benefits; specialists and your attorneys advise on the rules.

Long-distance parenting

Options for when a parent relocates, deploys, or works an unusual schedule.

Prince William County context

Mediation and the courts in Manassas

Divorces for Prince William County, as well as the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, are handled by the Prince William County Circuit Court at the judicial center in Manassas. Custody and support matters outside a divorce generally go to the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in the same building. Mediation is a private process outside those courtrooms, where you and your spouse can settle as much as possible on your own terms.

Prince William covers a lot of ground, from the Potomac shoreline to the edge of Fauquier. Before you commit to a schedule, we talk through exchange locations, drive times, and how a plan will work for a child who has school the next morning.

I meet clients in person in Northern Virginia and by secure video. Video is especially helpful for commuting parents, service members, and couples who would rather not share a waiting room.

Common questions

Prince William County mediation questions

Can we mediate around a deployment or military orders?

Yes. We can schedule around orders and meet by secure video from anywhere. Military benefits have special rules, so I encourage each of you to get specialized advice on those.

Do you mediate for Manassas and Manassas Park residents too?

Yes. I work with families throughout Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, in person in Northern Virginia or by video.

What if we only disagree about one or two things?

Hourly mediation at $300 an hour (two-hour minimum per joint session) works well for a narrower set of issues.

Is what we say confidential?

Generally, yes. Virginia law treats mediation communications as confidential, with limited exceptions such as threats of harm or suspected child abuse.

Can you represent one of us?

No. As a mediator I’m neutral and don’t represent or advise either spouse. Each of you is encouraged to have your own attorney review your agreement.
